Google’s Firebase offers a quite comprehensive platform for Web or Mobile app development, offering most needed backend and analytics services. In this workshop we will touch upon the key products of Firebase, by creating a Web App that allows users to login and upload and share images via the cloud. For this we need Firebase Authentication to be to log in. We need Cloud Firestore as the Database solution. For storing images we need Cloud Storage. Also, we will use Firebase Hosting for hosting. And finally, for backend thumbnail crunching, we use Cloud Functions for Firebase.
Google Cloud Platform or Firebase
Wait what ‘… for Firebase‘, and some service start with ‘Firebase …‘ and others with ‘Cloud …‘ , what does that mean? Basically, Firebase is a BaaS running on Google Cloud Platform (GCP) and for some parts we will need GCP as well; showcasing the smooth interaction between the two platforms.
We will also touch upon issues you might face when using Firebase in production, such as CI/CD integration, security, multi instance Firebase, handle synchronisation, and creating Progressive Web Apps.
This workshop is intended for people who want to learn why they should choose Firebase for their product, and for people who want to learn how to use firebase in their products.
